Color Trends 2014

Colour transforms and creates, shifting our ideas and changing our moods. Looking ahead to the spring / summer 2014 fashion season, we're in for colour trends that take in earthy, sun-baked hues, cool, calm blues, and boldly clashing kaleidoscopes of colour. Seductive.

Desire. Racy. Intense. Voluptuous. It’s words like these Lenzing uses to describe this theme of a steamy, hot summer; where tactility of textiles is slinky and sophisticated. The colour palette compliments fabrics like light-reflecting satins, jacquards, rich jerseys and open weave knits.

Color Trends Spring 2013

Pink from last year has become bright red this year, and the earth tone browns have become green. The yellow tone has shifted to a lemon tone from a deeper more orange tone. The only remaining brown tone in the new palette is a very pale tone called Linen, compared to the dark saturated shades in the last year’s forecast. There are some tones that carry over from last year, though. The midnight blue and orange and purple shades in the 2013 forecast are nearly identical from the previous year. The turquoise tone is also a fairly consistent presence.

The new palette is very in line with the direction we’ve already been seeing the scrapbook industry moving, towards brighter colors and away from the muted tones of the vintage style. It’s consistent with the rise of the graphic style that has been flooding onto store shelves. The release of this forecast also raises a big question….what will the 2013 color of the year be? It should be one of the colors in this Spring 2013 forecast, but which one? I predict it will be one of the shades of blue or green, but we’ll have to wait awhile to see. That won’t be announced until December.

Color Trends Fall Winter 2012 2013

Long before models hit the catwalk and clothing reaches your local stores, the world’s leading color pickers predict what will be happening in society, and what colors will compliment it all.

Red may always represent passion and heat, but it’s not always right for the runway. Fall 2012 Winter 2013 found the time right to indulge in everything from the brightest of corals to the deepest of ruby reds, mixing fiery hues with the season’s strongest textures.

Black & Blue

The "it" color combination of the season is most definitely all about black and navy blue. And Carolina Herrera — whose first handful of looks to go down the runway made the hues of a boo-boo look red-carpet ready — nailed the mix with this striped dress.

At all the femme fatale looks on the designers' runway, it didn't get more luxe than this zipped-up black coat with midnight blue fur trim.

Burgundy

Burgundy is the new black! Although he showcased a lot of post-Labor Day white, the designer also debuted a deep, luscious spiced wine color in a silk zip-front peplum dress that had us begging for fall to come early.
